On June 1, 2000 our home was destroyed by a tornado. As you can guess, our lives got pretty messed up. Then we had to think about rebuilding our home. Well, trying to get a builder to quote a new construction home in June, and the fact that they would have to deal with insurance, was not easy.

To make a long story short, we met with Hank at Hechimovich Homes. I was pretty skeptical about building a Wausau Home, but when Hank explained the construction process to me, we decided to go with the panelized construction.

It was the best decision I ever made. The quality was top-notch, and Hank and Cindy did everything they could do to make sure the insurance company received all the info they needed to help things go smoothly. I never thought we could go from not thinking about building a new house to moving in. But six months to the day, on December 1, 2000, we were moved in, three months earlier than our neighbors who started building at the same time. My wife and I had the unfortunate experience of losing our house to a fire one week before Christmas. After taking care of initial necessities the search for our new home began.

We soon discovered that most builders were out of our price range for the home we desired and the time frame was just too long - most builders were looking at a 6 - 12 month time frame, not including tear down of the existing structure.

Once we had a friend whom we knew that put up a Wausau home that we felt was very nice, so we decided to look into this option. We were referred to Hank Hechimovich by the Fond Du Lac Wausau builder. We were able to construct a home that was even nicer than we expected and including teardown and new construction we were in our new home by May 17 - considering a month was lost due to investigation that follows any fire and the cold weather we were quite pleased. Also, the energy costs of this new house are quite surprising - much lower than anticipated.

If you're looking for a relatively headache-free home building experience, let one contractor handle it all. If my wife and I ever build another home I am quite confident it would be another Wausau, and hopefully the contractor would be as great as Hank and Cindy were to deal with.

We had been looking for a builder for over two years to build a new vacation home, with little or no success. Since we are from out of state and 120 miles away from our lake property, we were also concerned about getting a fair deal and making sure our builder was doing the work we were paying for in a timely fashion. Add to this the fact that we'd never built a home before, and you can understand our anxiety.

Our search for a reasonable price led us to consider Wausau Homes, as we'd heard good things about their quality. We were referred to Hechimovich Homes by a Wausau Homes dealer in Fond Du Lac. Within a month we had picked out a home design that matched our specifications. One month later we'd finalized our choices, and construction began in July.

Since we were so far away from the property, and our work schedules kept us from frequent visits, we could only visit the jobsite once every two weeks on weekends to check on the progress of the project. We did most of our day-to-day management of the project via telephone and e-mails with the Hechimovich Homes team. Hank Hechimovich bent his schedule around ours, meeting with us on weekend mornings(!).

By December we had a new home. It is truly a masterpiece of construction. Hank's subcontractors simply did an excellent job, and it's evident in every nook and cranny of our home, from the electrical system to the finish carpentry details. If we ever have to build another home, we'd go with a Wausau Home in a heartbeat, and we can only hope that Hank and his team will be there to build it for us.
